Nic Dawes is the Managing Director (Acting) and Deputy Executive Director for Media at Human Rights Watch (HRW). He heads the organisation’s digital, multimedia, and external communications work and is also responsible for strategic planning. He directly manages the operational side of HRW including, Finance, Human Resources and IT. He is also responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of policies and standards across the entire organization.
Prior to HRW, he was the Chief Content Officer at India’s Hindustan Times, where he was responsible for a far-reaching digital transformation, and Editor-in-Chief at South Africa’s leading political and investigative newspaper, the Mail & Guardian.
